Original hand-carved woodblock of an American eagle standing with wings spread holding a banner captioned, "Victory" in its beak. Approx 2"x1½", ca. 1830's-40's, together with matching print impression from the block, matted to overall 8 ¼"x11." An exquisite depiction created by Alexander Anderson considered the father of wood engraving in America. Minor separation at edge of banner. Very Good. Design referenced in Hamilton's Early American Wood Engravers, 1967.
