DS as president, signed “Wm. H. Taft,” four onionskin pages, 8.5 x 12.5, October 28, 1912. Carbon copy of a supplemental contract with the Cherokee Nation, in part: “Whereas, under contract entered into on the 10th day of June, 1912, by William C. Rogers, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, and William W. Hastings, approved by the President of the United States June 26, 1912…Witnesseth, that it shall be the duty of the party of the second part to investigate and take proper action relative to the estates of defective and dependent citizens of the Cherokee Nation looking to the development of their property and the protection of the same from dissipation, waste or deterioration, and to prosecute such action, both criminal and civil, as the necessities may require and as directed by the Secretary of the Interior.” Signed in the lower left of the third page by President Taft, who adds the date, “Oct. 28,” and countersigned by William C. Rogers as Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, William W.Hastings as Party of the Second Part, and Ralph E. Campbell as US District Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Upper right corner of first page bears an “Office of Indian Affairs” stamp. In fine condition.
