The first edition of the collected Writings of Thomas Paine, printed in Albany in 1792, with the scarce first collected American edition of The Crisis. This copy contains the rarely found general title page and list of Subscriber’s Names, including leaders such as James Madison and Nathan Hale.

Text is generally fresh with scattered foxing, and a bit of staining. Expected age-wear.

Thomas Paine (February 9, 1737 – June 8, 1809) was an English-born American Founding Father, political activist, philosopher, political theorist, and revolutionary. He authored Common Sense (1776) and The American Crisis (1776–1783), two of the most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, and he helped to inspire the Patriots in 1776 to declare independence from Great Britain. His ideas reflected Enlightenment-era ideals of human rights.
