(LINCOLN, Abraham). BERGER, Anthony, photographer. Large oval seated portrait of President Lincoln, taken for Matthew B. Brady on 9 February, 1864. "THE MOST SATISFACTORY LIKENESS." Albumen photograph on original mount, with the Brady studio imprint underneath the print and within the gold oval rule, approx. 221x163 mm., some very faint spotting to mount and photo. A rare image and rare format of the President in a striking meditative pose. Hamilton/Ostendorf 92 ("Thirty years after his father's death, Robert T. Lincoln wrote...'I have always thought the Brady photograph of my father...to be the most satisfactory likeness of him'").
