letter reads in full "To His Majesty, My Brother, The King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies Naples.Dear Brother,It is with deep pain that I hasten to inform Your Majesty of the loss I have suffered by the death of my beloved cousin, Mrs. Marie Elisabeth, Princess Dowager of Wagram, née the Duchess of Bavaria. She passed away in Paris on the 1st of this month at the age of 65. I am convinced that she would want to take part in this sad event, and I wish for Providence to consent to protect Your Majesty and his family from anything resembling an affliction. At the same time, I wish to seize the opportunity to reassure Your Majesty of my true friendship and of my highest esteem. My Brother, Your Majesty Munich, 20 June 1849 Maximilian".
