December 1799 ALS by Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, signed “Northumberland,” returning a check and asking the addressee to properly endorse and return it. 7" x 9" and in excellent condition. From the Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection.

Lieutenant General Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland KG FRS (14 August 1742 – 10 July 1817) was an officer in the British army and later a British peer. He led the relief force that rescued demoralized British troops in their retreat from Lexington and Concord. He missed Bunker Hill, was at Long Island and Fort Washington, and reached the rank of lieutenant general, but resigned and returned to England in 1777 due to disagreements with his superior, General William Howe.
