autograph letter signed, dated 11 December 1993 from Monroeville, Alabama. Letter is a reply to Don Salter, a longtime fan of Lee's who wrote the author frequently. Letter reads in full: ''Dear Mr. Salter: Thank you, as always, for remembering me with such a substantial gift. I shall read it with great pleasure and hope that Mark Childress has hit his stride. He is a fine writer to begin with; I have been waiting for him to age a little -- maturity will see him at this best, I think, and his best should be superb. You must stop sending me something every time I sign books for you. 'Thank you' is a-plenty. You pay me compliment enough just investing in hard-cover copies (for investment is what you make theses days). Best of the season to you and yours!'' Signed, ''Nelle Harper Lee''. One page letter, measuring 5.75'' x 7.75'', has one fold from mailing. Also includes original envelope with a Monroeville return address. Near fine.some years ago, but am very glad to have a signed copy. As always, you are so kind to think of me. If you are of a mind to, please hold a print until I'm home again next fall.
