Considered one of the finest dining spots in the city before and after WWII, along with the Jockey Club, Sans Souci and Duke's, Young's became a fixture on the DC social scene after hosting private dinners celebrating Pres. Kennedy's inauguration. Autographs from Washington politicos, scientists, royalty and Hollywood celebrities. Guest book begins Sep.15, 1960, and ends on the first leaf, Aug. 9, 1961, over 60 signatures including, Frank Sinatra (2nd from bottom of 1st page, with “Name Some Place” as hometown); Wernher von Braun the German, aerospace engineer and space architect considered the father of rocket technology and space science in the United States; Peter & Patricia Lawford (JFK’s brother-in-law and sister); Raymond Burr; Janet Leigh Curtis; Tony Curtis; comedian Joey Lewis; actor Mary Pickford and her husband Buddy Rogers; Laurence Olivier (Oct. 17, 1960); Joe E. Lewis (boxer, 7th signature, Oct. 1960); Kay Thompson (wrote the “Eloise” series of children’s books, adding “New York, the Plaza” last on 1st leaf); Lowell Thomas; poet Robert Lowell; Mario Moreno “Cantinflas;” oceanographer Jacques Piccard; Miko Taka; Morton Downey; Karl Malden; Barry Goldwater (1964 Republican Presidential candidate from Arizona); Hugh O’Brian.
