President of Venezuela (1877–1878) and a member of the Liberal Party of Venezuela; his administration became known for its liberal policies such as more autonomy given to the states, political amnesties, and increased freedom of the press. Partly-printed DS as president of Venezuela, in Spanish, signed “Fran. L. Alcantara,” one page, 8.75 x 13, June 3, 1878. Untranslated appointment for Jorge Kiedemann as consul in the United States of Venezuela in Puerto Plata. Signed prominently at the conclusion by Alcantara. Paper seal of Venezuela remains affixed to left side. In fine condition. Alcantara's untimely death on November 30, 1878, make documents signed as president especially rare.
