Scarce partly-printed DS, in French, signed “Bonaparte,” one page, 13.50 x 16.50 visible, framed to a size of 46"x28.5", Untranslated Napoleon document signed during the five year period in which he served as First Consul, signed ''Bonaparte'' to lower right. The French government was ruled by a Consulate of three leaders from the period of 1799 to 1804, when Napoleon was promoted to Emperor. This appointment is countersigned by Louis-Alexandre Berthier, prince de Neuchatel et de Wagram (1753-1815) as Minister of War and Hugues-Bernard Maret, duc de Bassano (1763-1839) as Secretary of State (horizontal and vertical folds). Bonaparte as Consul of the Republic. There is some discoloring to lower right quarter. Exquisitely framed with a color portrait a metal medallion showing a profile pose of Napoleon and the large document. Some scattered light creases and ripples, and scattered mild toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. The embossed paper seal is toned, but and intact.Quite impressive in person.
