French novelist, playwright, journalist, the best-known practitioner of the literary school of naturalism, and an important contributor to the development of theatrical naturalism.Zola was nominated for the first and second Nobel Prize in Literature in 1901 and 190. A fine hand written and signed letter which states in full: "Dear Esteemed Colleague,Thank you tremendously for being so available to me. But I really think that we will leave as a group, and I already [spoke with] Mr. George Petilleau [sp?] who should be leading me.In any case, it would only be a pleasure for me to make the journey with you. I will be leaving on Wednesday the 20th, by train at eleven-thirty.Yours sincerely, Emile Zola". In fine condition
George Petilleau was the president of the national Society of French Masters in England and was a professor at Charterhouse.
He was a friend and college of Zola's.
