Letter written in part by Henry Irving and Bram Stoker on behalf of Irving. Dated December 1878 from Bristol. Written shortly after Stoker began to work for Irving. Stoker writes on behalf of Irving who is extending an invitation for the opening night of a play (Hamlet) on Monday 30 December 1878 at the Lyceum. 7" x 9" and in fine condition.
Bram Stoker (8 November 1847 – 20 April 1912) was an Irish author who wrote the 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Sir Henry Irving and business manager of the West End's Lyceum Theatre, which Irving owned.
Henry Irving (6 February 1838 – 13 October 1905), was an English stage actor in the Victorian era, known as an actor-manager because he took complete responsibility for season after season at the West End's Lyceum Theatre, establishing himself and his company as representative of English classical theatre. In 1895 he became the first actor to be awarded a knighthood, indicating full acceptance into the higher circles of British society.
