Revolutionary era statesman, military officer signed this handwritten, two-page document 'Abner Bagley,' twice, on both sides of this 7¼"x9¼" Aug 27 1799, Oath of allegiance to Commonwealth of Massachusetts & the United States. In part: '...the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is, and of right ought to be a free sovereign and independent State...I do swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the said Commonwealth, and that I will defend the same against traitorous conspiracies....' Minor staining and tape repairs and edge tears, but not fragile. Interesting and historical reading. Good.
